The Power of Complexes

Jung had a very ambivalent feeling about archetypes because when they activated, he could reasonably predict that various inhuman feelings and behaviors were likely to emerge with an individual or a group. When he or other clinicians began to feel that an individual's psyche was on the verge of a major archetypal activation, he would task them with reading fairytales endlessly. And so I would venture to say that studying archetypes, mythology and fairytales is a kind of vaccination against archetypal possession.
