Voss: After Cambodia, I moved back to the Bay Area where I grew up and I ended up hooking up with a whole bunch of really early social media people. This cohort of people that I connected with were at the advancing edge of being able to kind of create viral cascades of emotion around particular causes we cared about. So yeah, if you can open the control box for empathy, you can definitely push the buttons for outrage. Voss: Traditional media like traditional news organizations began to lose the battle for attention.
