In January of 2020, Preston was planning to step down because that was the 40th anniversary of my starting Saddleback. He went away on retreat and didn't get a word either way about whether or not he should stay. Eight weeks later, COVID hit. Then I knew why. And it was that that caused me to reassess and reevaluate my position on women in ministry.
