CHAPTER

The Stoic View of Emotion and Reason

Bhat: Is it possible that the stoics, by trying so hard to suppress or conquer are emotions, maybe they miss something like fundamentally true and natural and important to what it means to be a human being? Bhat: I think i would say that the stoic view is that emotion and reason were both given to us, and that one is there to counterbalance out the other. But in the opening of meditations, again, i think what's so lovely about the stoics is that the more you study them, the more depth you find.
