The Importance of Purposeful Practice
The key to practice is that you get immediate feedback on your performance. In this kind of memory task, we could tell him immediately once he tried to recall the digits, whether he made any mistakes. He was then able to kind of realize when he made mistakes how he could then try to experiment and come up with new types of ways of encoding the digits. That allowed him to progress and be able to remember longer and longer sequences of digits.
