Montagne, a Social Conservative

Despite the radicalism of his philosophical and literary project, Montagne can fairly be described as a social conservative. But he did have a preference for the Catholic cause, in part because he just wasn't convinced of the Protestant point of view. The idea that theological disputes could be resolved by taking recourse to scripture alone was one he said he couldn't even take seriously.
