Is There Existential Inertia Between the Past and the Present?

Geologist: We find we create in a past event. If there is no existential inertia between that event, millions or billions of years ago, we wouldn't be able to know something about it now. I probably have a question five minutes after this is over. That's how it works. It makes your job as a geologist, kind of like a Sherlock Holmes, right, where you're looking at trees and trees. So, the answer is yes. But without trying to account for that phenomenon.
