If you train hard for a period of time, your performance will stagnate. And without that recovery, that is the key component to what you're trying to say. It's not like it's only now we're understanding this, but I think the general understanding is getting better. But even in the 60s we had Arthur Lydiard, we had others that were kind of moving in a different direction.
