Introduction
Julian Theopostate was the last traditionally religious emperor of the Roman realm. Diocletian comes to power in 283, 284 CE and begins a project where he turns what's called the Principate into the dominant position. This is the period where you have the emperor being in a more established court with various chamberlands and secretaries. And this really becomes the nucleus of the Byzantine imperial system here.
