The Story of Hazan and Kojiborzka
My mother served as a nurse, which gave her a bigger chance to survive because of being a nurse. She had access to more food and she did not have to stand on a daily basis in the roll calls. Hazan was mainly a cleaner and porter, carrying food to patients at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The Nazis still believed that Hazan and Kojiborzka were part of the Polish resistance, not Jewish. This saved them from the gas chambers. Instead, they were assigned to force labour with pickaxes in the fields.
