Hudson and Manhattan railroad in 1890 was the first company to use an airlock between the pressurize zone and the unpressurize zone. After night around 1904 after the construction of, you know, half a dozen subway tunnels into lower Manhattan, 30 workers were killed by decompression sickness. "We just can't fucking have that either," he says.
