The Importance of Community in Innovation

Do innovators, do they like to be in a community? And if so, is it a community within a community, a community across companies? I suspect we might find that the best innovators around the world may not actually enjoy being in a community. But you can't probably scale and or be successful with your innovation without the community. You require others. It has to be true that others get involved. Otherwise, your technology will stay on the drawing board somewhere.
