The two major modulators are sleep and non-sleep deep rest. Sleep is a general term for things that teach our body to down regulate in real time. Non-sleep deep resting includes things like, as a kind of corny name for some, it's called yoga nidra - which means yoga sleep. There are various forms of hypnosis that involve teaching you to relax.
