The Crisis of Democracy
The most urgent problem with our democratic system is the role of money in politics. In 2019, just over 100 donors were responsible for nearly half of all donations to political parties. Each of those donors giving nearly half a million pounds on average. The ideal that underpins democracy is one of political equality. And if rich people can effectively buy influence over political parties, that violates that principle in a very basic way.
