The Intentional Status of the Vervet Monkey
In the case of humans, we can distinguish between someone who hears an alarm call and runs away. In the monkey case, it's much harder for us to actually pull those things apart. Daniel Dennett suggests that in the vervet monkey case, we should start off by treating them as if they have beliefs and desires and intentions and see how far we get.
