The wealthy stayed really wealthy because they were the only ones who could afford slaves. And that means there wasn't a larger presence of a middle class as you would see develop in other areas. But it's within this very rigid hierarchical society that the seeds of revolution begin to be stone and start to sprout, right? Revolutionary ideas start to reach Latin America from North America and Europe and all over.
