The Epistemology of Sentience
I get the sense that consciousness science has been sort of widening the sphere of plausible consciousness in the animal kingdom. I think people now take insect consciousness a lot more seriously than they did a couple decades ago. So to go like very far from the human case, I already take insect sentience, at least somewhat seriously. And then as you get very close to humans, I would just be very confident about chimpanzees and gorillas and so forth. None of those are an 100% confident belief. But yeah, I don't think it's unreasonable to extend sentience consciousness quite far throughout the animal pinger.
