Chinese companies have seized ownership of 15 of the 19 primary industrial copper cable mining concessions in southeastern Congo. They now dominate mining on the ground and control 70 to 80% of mineral extraction, copper cobalt extraction from the Congo. Most of that cobalt goes up to mainland China for commercial grade refining. And they last year supplied 80% of the world's supply of refined commercial grade refined cobalt,. About half of all rechargeable batteries in the world were manufactured in China.
