The pronoun thing has always struck me as a little bit like the that's people get really mad about. Pronouns are kind of baked into our language, we're used to using them or used to visually identifying people as getting a certain set of pronouns. I had a friend who had one name and then in seventh grade, he went away for a year to live in a houseboat in the Caribbean. And when he came back, he had a different nickname and he wanted all of us to call him that.
