The Origins of the Uriman Thumb in the Book of Mormon Translation
Scott Smith: I've noticed a trend that I can't totally get on board with. He says Joseph and Oliver consistently are referring to the Nephite interpreters in their remittances. There's this line that says, in the course of time, Joseph Smith and his associates often use the term Uriman thumb to refer to the single stone as well as the interpreters that came with the plates. But it seems like Joseph and Oliver favor the phrase Urimans thumb which to them they often clarify to say Nauvoo interpreters.
