Is Scaling Up an Idea an Art or Science?

So far in this world, scaling has been all art. So wat what is it that about scaling up an idea that exposes these fault lines in our ideas? Only after we scale them up will there always be a little bit of risk that we can't foresee in scaled up ideas. Like, is identifying the vulnerabilities just aa of going through this list?
