CHAPTER

The Importance of History in Venture Capital

Venture capital investment is absolutely thinking about scenarios. And they can imagine how something will go very badly wrong and a whole of money is lost. So history is all about counterfactuals. What could have happened as well as what did happen? Why did Lenin manage to establish the communist state, which lasted for 70 years? How did Hitler become Chancellor of Germany in 1933? But those questions are difficult questions. I'm very passionate about teaching history in schools in particular. It's the best possible way that people can think about scenarios.
