The Drag, a Play About Gayness
May, her boy friend slash lawyer slash manager, james timany, and 22 others associated with sex were arrested on charges of corrupting the moral s of youth. May later said the theme of the play was live and let love. But she had conflicted feelings about homosexuality. She believed that while some people experimented in ach of what she disparagingly referred to as cheap thrills, in other cases homosexuality was a disease that could be cured. The way she writes about gayness in the context of the drag is pretty viciously homophobic.
