The History of Neuropsychology

Modern day clinical neuropsychology was rooted in the study and assessment of traumatic brain injuries sustained by service members in the two world wars. Early 20th century intelligence movement laid groundwork for our present day understanding of human cognitive abilities. Like most healthcare fields, neuropsychology has both a clinical arm and a research arm. Some neuropsychologists spend most of their time working with individual patients and their families while other neuropsychologists conduct research that improves our understanding of the brain and behavior.
