The Effects of Chest X-Rays on Antibiotic Use
In children who present with viral symptoms, chest X-rays increase use of antibiotics but do not actually improve outcomes. So the act of getting a chest X-ray will not improve the child's outcome. If you're using them more than maybe 10% of the 20% of the time, you're probably overusing them and increasing your antibiotic use for no particular benefit.
