The pre-production on the film was underway, in fact the script was proving quite challenging to put together. NASA for instance allowed the filmmakers to go around their facilities and talk to some of their staff just as part of the pre-production research for building the film. Then there was a very late change just in personnel as well because director of photography Claude Renoir's eyesight suddenly started deteriorating. The next James Bond adventure would not be directed by Lewis Gilbert but by Michael Chamino.
