The Importance of History in Revolutionary Movements

In order for a revolutionary movement to occur, it must be in tune with its past. And when you do this, you are attributing certain value to history that maybe on its own doesn't really exist. Is it that history exists out there or does history exist only when we give it meaning? So he's doing this in order to provide justification for the immediate countermeasure against an emerging fascism.
