Is There a Future in Propositional Knowledge?

There was an extraordinary expansion of propositional knowledge from the eighteenth century onwards. But doesn't that just push the question one stage back? Why? What happened to make propositional knowledge flourish in this way? Absolutely tojust the centuries before the industri revolution. And what happens in this society, i would say, after maybe 14 50 is a continuous growth of people who are willing to question received knowledge. Being an innovator was a risky business because you could be accused of apostasy.
