The Effects of Pacing on Exercise Performance
JAMA study looked at whether a pacemaker-to-enhanced heart rate during exercise would improve exercise performance in patients who had heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. The primary endpoint that they looked for was whether there would be a change in the VO2 at the interrobic threshold. And what the investigators concluded was that it may be that a faster heart rate actually reduces the stroke volume.
