The victims families approved the construction of a memorial sun dial, designed by santa barbara artist james bottom. Camptoin thompson and first officer tansky were both posthumously awarded the airline pilots association gold medal for heroism in recognition of their actions during the emergency. This is the only time this award has ever been given posthumus. And the sun dial casts a shadow on a memorial placue at four 22 p m each january 30,. which i think is pretty cool to eh? That is cool.
