What Is American Liberal Democracy?
Liberal sounds like a good word to me. I'd love to be liberal. It's funny you say that, because when these, this group of french statesmen and writers, like bengamin constant and madame de stael, for example, start using the word liberal in this political sense, saying we are liberal. We're the liberals, the generous, magnanimous ones. So there was this moment where the politiciation of the word was very kind of controversial. And i wonder if early liberals clearly like that, that the word had this positive connotation as well. When when they started to call themselves liberal? Why do we think of it as being american?
