Episode 161: “Alone Again Or” by Love
A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs

The Daily Planet
The Daily Planet, the first song recorded for the new album, was where things started to fall apart. By this point, all of the band had severe drug problems and that's often blamed for the first session going horribly wrong. They'd also not had a chance to play the new material live because they'd hardly been playing any gigs. The only reason they had any money was that they had renegotiated their contract with Electra. Of the 11 songs on the album, nine were Lee's - many of them combined dark, paranoid lyrics with almost nursery by melodies. This does however get resolved at the end of the album which manages to turn pessimism into something positive.
