Introduction

A six month old X 30 week premature infant presented with the chief complaint of persistent fever for five days. The patient was started on prophylactic kepra and was admitted to the hospital floor. Following a 14-day course of antibiotics, the patient actually exhibited an acute change in clinical status. He ended up having bradycardia, pupillary changes, eye rolling, and hypothermia. In response to this acute change, the patient is now in the PICU, has been intubated, and neurosurgery has been consulted to help alleviate the increased intracranial pressure.
