The Impossibility of Penalizing a Drunk Driver
Some people think that there's actually nothing in principle wrong with driving drunk. But as a consequentialist, I find that view very, very implausible. So you might get lucky and drive home without injuring someone. But if you're driving your car in a state that makes it 10 times more likely,. you're going to injure a person or something like that, then I don't see anything wrongful about punishing you for that.
