The Effect of the Tsunami on Fertility

There is a strong boost in fertility among communities where there was a lot of death from the tsunami. The women we observe having more children indeed articulated a desire to have children after the tsunami. So it certainly doesn't seem to have been an accidental result or a result of poor access to contraception. It could be that the tsunami wiped out all access to contraception but then on the other hand, there's available mates too.
