Is There a Good Methodology for Predicting What a Future Technology Will Look Like

I think the main objection that I have to this line of thought is that if you're trying to predict what a future technology will look like it's not necessarily a good methodology. It seems to often be the case that this sort of argument schema doesn't necessarily work that well or another case as well is that in human evolution there's for example a lot of different sort of preference rankings I could have over the arrangement of sort of matter in this room.
