Researchers don't fully understand what the exact causes of bi polar disorder are. But we have been able to identify fact which may increase your risk of developing it. Symptoms first usually emerge when you are in your tnyes or early adult hood. And generally the onset is about 20, fiveys old. So genetic predisposition is huge. The earlier your parent is diagnosed and with the disorder, the higher your risk for also developing it. However, genetics isn't the only factor. Some medications and drugs can trigger the onset of a manic depressive episode. Also, lack of sleep has been shown to increase risk of many episodes. There are environmentala os as well that also play a significant role
