Caesar and the Pirates of the Aegean

After being captured by pirates on his way across the Aegean, Caesar promised them in who had kidnapped him that he would have all of them crucified. In 68 BC, Caesar delivered a public eulogy for his aunt Julia, the wife of Marius. At her funeral, he displayed images of Marius, something no one had dared to do after the Solen dictatorship. He used money of rich associates to organize festivals and spectacles.
