The Relationship Between Moral Defects and the Aesthetic Value of Jokes
Is there an objective standard for what makes something good or whether things are merely a matter of taste? I don't see humor as being valuable in part because the basis of giving it that value is based on coolness and sexiness. The joke would be funny, even if there are no people in the world who find this kind of thing funny - but these people do not exist at all. And so we should think that aesthetic value accrues to all of them. So going back to your sort of distinction that you made between objective aesthetic value and mere matters of taste,. It's totally consistent on my view to acknowledge that a lot of people who do not have a taste for immoral humor
