The Importance of Connecting Strangers

The internet makes it easy to forget that we're interacting with actual human people and not a grainy profile picture or an anonymized username. The term was coined in January of 2019 by Twitter user Maple Cocaine, who wrote, each day on Twitter, there is one main character. What has always stood out to me about the internet's main character is that they are often forged out of apolitical moments of friction online. We're dehumanized online and this dehumanization makes it much harder to empathize with each other and therefore easier to hate each other and be hated in return.
