Is There a Reliable Confirmatory Test for VAP?

The IDSA, ATS consensus definition for VAP is something along the lines of a new and persistent infiltrate on chest imaging. There are two specific signs on a chest x-ray where if you see them, you can actually be pretty darn confident that it likely represents VAP. The other is called fissure abutment; your lung has fissures which separate different lobes.
