The DEA's Role in Telemedicine
Congress passed restrictions on telemedicine in 2001 and asked the DEA to come up with a way that trusted providers could avoid those restrictions. Now that there's video conferencing, etc., most people now believe those restrictions were too severe. The DEA enforced the restrictions, but it didn't create the workaround. During the pandemic, the executive branch declared a state of emergency and the DEA lifted those restrictions. But now that the state of emergency is over, the DEA must decide how to re-implement those restrictions.
