The value system of the ancient greeks didn't see objects and material wealth as being something to aim for in that way. The modern industrial, military industrial comflex or whater it is compete to innovate. And we know that competition drives all kinds of novelty. So i can't suppose that there wasn't some kind of competition, say, between vase makers. We aren't told about it, but we have occasional vases, including one which says, euphronius never did this, written on a vase.
