Kubrick is basing so many of these scenes around like, you know, masters, deep focus masters with very limited camera movement. So you're really letting the actors control the pace of these scenes. The one scene where Sterling Hayden goes to see Tim Carey for the first time and he's got the puppy in his hands. "What a friggin nut on that movie"
