The Importance of Reading the Bible Seriously

I think saying I read the Bible literally has lost meaning. We have tried to shove too many meanings into it. It's a litmus test to determine who is in the fundamentalist evangelical subculture and who is out. Instead of reading the Bible as an opportunity to gain wisdom, we should be trying to communicate its own terms on our own terms. And rather than assuming the Bible is one thing for all people, let's use diverse voices to share God's message with others.
