The Global Crackdown on Press Freedom and Free Expression
The pandemic was unique in that we had never seen a global crackdown on press freedom and free expression on this scale. There was no kind of capacity to engage with governments who were in, you know, carrying out this kind of repressive action because the whole world was in crisis. And what I saw when you looked around the world was like authoritarian governments used authoritarian tactics. They arrested people, they engaged in brute censorship, they intimidated critics.
