There is an argument that simply says, you know, there's also the argument about compassion fatigue. That if you can get people to adopt a beneficial behavior through means other than an appeal to self sacrifice, maybe you should. I mean, one way of simply promoting pro-social, beneficial behavior is just to make it socially acceptable or fashionable. So much behavior is simply driven by social norms and habits.
