The Distraction of Running a Database Service

AWS was offline for a week in April 2011 pretty much. We had shipped Wally just like luckily a month before. And so we were able to recover databases with no data loss. Whereas RDS just told customers like, sorry, we lost the volume back then. So I mean, I'd like to say that was amazing foresight and like we knew what we were doing  and it's like a little bit of lucky timing.
