Most scholars, when they study sacrifice in ancient religions, it's a way of buying god's good graces. But that verse changes the whole perspective. Sacrifice is for us, not for him. And so this is not god wanting to take reward. This is god wanting to teach us truth. Love them out of sempathy, out of compassion. You should know how they feel, cause you've been in their shoes.
