A group of tech luminaries signed an Open letter saying they're concerned about AI. The statement was vague and did not call for any specific actions to be taken. But it united a lot of the most prominent figures in the AI movement behind this sort of general statement of concern. Many researchers are concerned that these models could one day wipe out humanity.

A few days after a lawyer used ChatGPT to write a brief filled with made-up cases, a group of A.I. experts released a letter warning of the “risk of extinction” from the technology. But will A.I. ever be good enough to pose such a threat?
